Equine Asthma Syndrome is a newly coined term describing a spectrum of inflammatory respiratory disorders including RAO (previously referred to as COPD or 'heaves'). With recent drops in temperature and wet conditions, many of us are stabling our horses for longer periods. Equine asthma is a non-infectious, allergic reaction of susceptible horses caused by the inhalation of spores and allergens often found in hay and straw. Therefore, it is no surprise that during the winter months there is an increase in horses with equine asthma.
