Dairy
We have a longstanding reputation as progressive and driven Dairy vets, and pride ourselves on our Dairy client service. All dairies have a designated first and second vet with responsibility for the routine work on these farms. Our experienced team of dedicated farm vets is competent and enthusiastic; we want to work with you to maximise the productivity and profitability of your farm. Within the team we have vets proficient at managing mastitis, lameness, fertility, youngstock, nutrition and infectious disease challenges.
We encourage all clients to have routine fertility sessions booked with their designated named vets, ensuring that fertility issues can be monitored on a regular basis. The ongoing client-vet relationship is key to us providing the best support to individual client’s needs. These sessions can be weekly, fortnightly or four-weekly, depending on your requirements.
We regularly use data analysis to allow trends in fertility performance to be tracked, and appropriate management changes made. We have access to Interherd, Interherd +, TotalVet, Uniform Agri and Dairy Comp at the practice.

Youngstock
As the future of your herd, the health of your youngstock is critical to farm success. Our vet and vet tech team provide a variety of youngstock services designed to help you measure and manage calf health on your farm. Kat and Zoe lead the veterinary youngstock team, with Rosie and her vet tech team providing support with weighing, vaccinating and disbudding etc.

Beef
We are proud to provide a progressive and enthusiastic service to our beef farmers. We believe that a successful vet-client relationship is founded on consistent, timely advice delivered by someone who knows you and your farm.
As such, we aim to give every beef farmer a consigned vet who is their go-to point of contact at The George. We are available to our clients as much as possible; in person, on the phone and over email.

Sheep
We have a core group of vets in the team who are enthusiastic about improving flock health. We offer a wide range of health services to ensure the longevity and productivity of your flock.
Ed Bailey has a certificate in advanced Sheep Veterinary Practice and leads our sheep team. Sarah, Ellie, Geth and Kat run our sheep discussion meetings and are closely involved with many of our sheep flocks.

Parasite Control
Ed and Ellie are passionate about sustainable worm control and can provide farm specific parasite control plans for your farm.
As a team we aim to include parasite control in the health planning process, encouraging regular worm egg counts and only treating when necessary. Our in house Ovactye machine means we can provide same day results on samples.

Sustainable Farming
Ed helped put together the Vet Sustain Sustainable Food and Farming course, and can help interpret farm carbon footprints to target actions which minimise emissions.
Health, fertility, longevity and utilization of home grown forage are the key drivers of farm profits and emissions, and we can review all these areas for individual farms to help make the best steps forward for both financial and environmental sustainability.

Training
Sarah Smith is our Lead for Technical Training and is responsible for overseeing and delivering our training courses.
We run a variety of accredited courses throughout the year at regular intervals and can also offer bespoke training for you and your team on your farm.

Medicine Delivery
We understand the importance for clients to be able to access medicines both quickly and conveniently. In addition to the current 16 medicine collection points already serviced, we continue to explore new opportunities at other location across the area we cover.
Our delivery team of Debbie, Phill, Shaun and Simon service client requests in 2 vans every day, 5 days a week.

Pharmacy
Our dedicated and experienced dispensary team of Andy, Bridget and Kirsty ensures the efficient and prompt medicine supply through our driving team, for collection from 16 different locations across our area.
We can also organise for medicines to be couriered direct to farm or of course brought with the vet if they are coming to visit.
We keep a ready supply of all commonly used products, and a daily delivery service means we can have anything in stock within 24 hours.

With our Idexx blood analysis machines, we can provide full haematology and biochemistry profiles.
Faecal samples for worm egg and coccidial counts are analysed using our Ovacyte system, providing us with greater accuracy than more traditional methods.

Grazing Consultancy
Ed is trained as a grazing consultant through AHDB, so can offer advice on how to manage grass whatever your farming system. This includes grazing strategies, soil health, multi-species swards, outwintering and coaching support throughout the season.

Client Events
We host multiple events for our clients across the year to bring our community together. We believe client care is about knowing our clients and their families as people first and foremost – understanding them as individuals, while providing first class animal care and preventative solutions for all of our farmers and their livestock.
The calendar year kicks off with our Cow Convention held in January at RAU Cirencester. It’s a great networking opportunity for farmers with representatives from the many industry suppliers who come along with their trade stands. Invited speakers within the industry talk on subjects which have ranged from TB to discussing running a successful team on farm with Paul Harris from Real Success.

In November 2025, we are holding a new ‘Making ends meet’ conference aimed at beef and sheep farmers – again with speakers, trade stands and an industry panel.
We host clinical benchmarking meetings and training courses for clients and you will also see us at a number of farm shows across the year.
In addition, we host a number of social events for both clients and non-clients which provide those in farming the opportunity to get away from the farm and chat to others who understand what each and everyone is going through, or potentially struggling with, at the time. We are keen to raise awareness of the importance of maintaining good mental health within farming and organise opportunities to get together, acknowledge that it is ‘ok to not be ok’ and highlight that there is always someone to talk to, including The George Farm Vets.
These events include:
- Women’s coffee mornings – currently 4 in different catchment areas with more in the pipeline.
- A rounders evening between farmers, vets and local businesses.
- Summer BBQs held locally and also in the north of our area in Gloucestershire.
We produce a charity calendar using photos sent in as part of a competition judged by a charity volunteer. These are sold to help raise funds which this year is in aid of FCN & Sunflowers Suicide Support.
In October, we hold 4 charity farmers skittles evenings to raise awareness around mental health as 10th October is World Mental Health Day. These are held at Wilcot, Horton / Luckington, Guiting Power and Epney Saul. Food and the first drink is provided, with a raffle held at each evening in aid of FCN and The DPJ Foundation.
Christmas is a great time to bring everyone together. Our social finale is a Women’s wreath making workshop held in early December (with Prosecco and food). We also host 2 Christmas quizzes, one locally and the other north of the practice in Gloucestershire.
Our conferences and social events are open to anyone – clients and non-clients alike.

Discussion Groups
We see huge value in farmer discussion groups and meetings. On-farm walks provide an opportunity for peer-to-peer knowledge transfer, and our calendar of evening meetings and events provides time for farmers to chat and ask questions of our team in a relaxed setting.
We have a busy annual schedule of meetings spanning Dairy, Beef and Sheep topics, frequently including a benchmarking element which often leads to some lively discussion!
